Without Sense
It was a strange sensation, I wonder if you have felt it too. I stood on the drift wood cluttered beach at Hokitika yesterday and knew I was looking west out over the Tasman Sea yet my feelings told me I was facing east over the Pacific Ocean. I deliberately battled with my mind to summon up the picture of where I was and what direction I was facing but I could not alter that feeling.
When he had finished his call James came and we started for home. Along the main street, passed the clock tower turned left, and I felt like it should have been right. The car straightened up to follow the road out of Hokitika and in a flash my sense of direction returned.
On my left was the Tasman Sea, still visible and beyond was Australia. Later we would turn right, through Otira and that brilliant fete of engineering called the viaduct, Arthurs Pass and home and everything was in its place. I knew where we were and where we were going.
What an amazing thing a sense of direction is. Made me think of the albatross as it journeys for years at sea before returning to its original place of birth. Now there is directional sense!
I believe in God the Creator.
