In 7 weeks spent in Thailand I have only once been able to read the news. Alone in a mall several stories high I ‘happened upon’ a Starbucks where I bought a coffee :) and read The Bangkok Post, an English language newspaper. It was so good to feel normal for half an hour before I had to search for the young’uns.

Yesterday at the start of the lesson in our Spoken English class I told the Japanese students that the Emperor of Japan had a Grandson. They had not read or heard the news either and it felt like a priviledge to tell them. ‘A son?’ they asked, checking to be sure they had heard it correctly. “Yes, a Grandson for the Emperor” I affirmed. First son born into the Japanese royal family in 46 years, they were all delighted.

What is a Principle?

I have been combing through Psalm 119 and have come across the word ‘principle’ many times. Early in the reading I started thinking 'what are God’s principles?' My life experiences and the scriptures tell me that:
· God is not a cruel dictator
· He created us for relationship with Himself and He is a benevolent God
Þ One of His principles is for us to live a life in His unconditional favour

But into Psalm 119:

verse 5: 'Oh that my actions would consistently reflect your principles.' If someone were to watch my life through binoculars or a microscope would they, without previous knowledge, learn God's principles from my life?

verse 33 'Teach me O Lord to follow every one of your principles.'
So what are they?

verse 54 'Your principles have been the music of my life, throughout the years of my pilgrimage.'
What are these principles??? They are obviously something very positive!

Verse 112: 'I am determined to keep your principles, even forever to the very end.'

Verse 135: 'Look down on me with love; teach me all your principles.'

Verse 171: 'Let my lips burst forth with praise for you have taught me your principles!'
Wow, so the Psalmist learnt them!

What is a principle? Is it a dream? A rule or command? Something in between?
It seems to me to be an undergirding support system with some applicatio in every situation of life.

I want to know these principles, they are bigger than I can fathom alone. I am not satisfied with my search so far. This is hardly a controversial subject but if you have never responded to a blog question before please do it now, I want verse 171 written into my life, and maybe yours!

Albatross have a 3rd kidney. When they leave their nest they fly off the cliff and do not return for several years. As they fly over the ocean they need to drink seawater for fluids. To prevent the salt in the seawater from entering their bodies there is a third kidney at the base (head end) of their beak to filter out the salt before it can enter the blood stream.
This is why albatross always appear to have a cold id their dose. The permanent drip is the salt from the 3rd kidney.

Yes, as I have said before, I believe in a creator God.
